M
oto Club Pistón started in 1978 promoted by “Piston Discotheque and Club” which gave us the name. The original idea came from Ramón Calderón (painter, multidisciplinar artist and brother to the famous musical composer Juan Carlos Calderón’s – yeah! You have listened to some of their songs performed by Herb Alpert) who was a vintage cars & motorcycles enthusiast and eventually founded “Escudería El Pistón” in 1964 (maybe one of the eldest classic motoring clubs in Spain). Moto Club Pistón is not such a veteran club but we can proudly say that we were among the first clubs devoted to classic motorcycling in Spain.
Our first meeting was held in Laredo in 1979. There were 325 entrants, a great success! We kept going on and the meeting was growing year by year, but this was not a classic bikes event. Modern bikes were the main characters. We knew that classic bike lovers were the hard core of the club so – in 1987 – with Julián Sesma (a superb motorcycling fan from Bilbao) we took part in the former Barajas Rally, where we met the “state of the art” of the Spanish classic motorcycling scene. After talking to Enrique Mayor, Joaquín García and Manolo Trapero (Barajas); Jaime Soler (Terrassa); the great Tomas Berna and Lola (Tauste) among many others, we promised that we would meet again soon in Santillana Del Mar at the Halloween weekend for the Piston Rally.
It’s been a long way since then and we are still alive.
What the hell is a “wild boar”?
A wild boar is a very special kind of motorcyclist: the one who never asks about the weather before going out for a ride; the one who never asks questions such as “How far is it?” or “Does it takes a lot to get there?” or “We are not going that high, are we?”.
The winter meeting for classic bikes is held in February, a wild boar custom made date.
But, what the hell is a “wild boar”? A wild boar is a very special kind of motorcyclist: the one who never asks about the weather before going out for a ride; the one who never ask questions such as “How far is it?” or “Does it takes a lot to get there?” or “We are not going that high, are we?”.
This madness started with comments like: Let’s see what happens... in Spain there is not a winter meeting for classic bikes and France is full of them, this can’t be tolerated any more. So someone said, “Let’s try!”.
Last year’s edition we rode with snow and real cold. When reaching the Finish line everybody showed happy faces. It was genuine satisfaction because of a fulfilled challenge.
We saw pure bikers there. Those who like riding whatever the conditions. We really encourage you to come and experience the Wild Boar winter meeting.
Forget about stress, forget about crisis and become one of us, become a wild boar classic rider.
There will be routes through the mountains and close to the shore, with twisty roads and long straights, with awesome landscapes and beautiful beaches, with delicious food and wine at the end of each day.
The starts will be 09:30 to 10:30 every day. You will start and ride freely (it won’t be a parade). All the routes are marked with arrows and you will be given an easy understanding road book.
Try not to get lost and do never let the assistance van to go before you because, in that case, we won’t pick you up if you have any problem with your bike. But do not worry. You will always find an arrow at any crossroads and the moto club staff members will be there doing their best to tell you the right way.
A kind of an open to all rally. This is a meeting open to any kind of motorcycles (pioneer veteran, vintage, classic, post-classic…) up to 1995. Once more, it will have not only Spanish entrants but a good amount of welcome foreign riders.
